My name is Roger Mallol Parera (Gratallops, 1981) and I am a Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Engineering of La Salle – Ramon Llull University (Barcelona).
I am a creative and biomedical-oriented computer engineer with an entrepreneurial spirit willing to make a socially positive impact through teaching, research and innovation.
I am the coordinator of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation course for undergraduate engineering students and a member of the academic committee in charge of developing a new undergraduate program at the intersection between engineering and health studies.
My research interests also lie at the intersection between engineering and biomedicine (e.g. bioinformatics). I have ample experience in the processing and analysis of NMR-based metabolomics data.
I obtained my Degree in Computer Engineering at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2008 and my Master Degree in Electronic Engineering at the Rovira i Virgili University in 2009. I completed my PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Xavier Correig in 2014 at the Rovira i Virgili University. I have also completed postgraduate courses in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at the Open University of Catalonia in 2012.
I have published several papers at the intersection between #engineering and #biomedicine, have presented my work at various conferences and I am co-inventor of a patent. My doctoral thesis received the PIONER Award from the CERCA Institution (2014) and the Extraordinary Doctoral Award from the Rovira i Virgili University (2015).
I am a founding partner of Biosfer Teslab, a spin-off company of the Rovira i Virgili University and the Pere Virgili Biomedical Research Institute, where I worked as a founder CEO (2014-2015). During this period, the company received a number of public and private #entrepreneurship and financing awards.
I have also been a member (2015-2017) of the Computational Biology Group led by Prof. Sven Bergmann at the University of Lausanne as a Postdoctoral Researcher and a member (2017-2018) of Prof. Emilio Palomares’s research group at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) as a Scientific Coordinator (Entrepreneur in residence).
During my different professional stages, I have participated in different research projects and have actively contributed to fundraising activities.
